There are a number of ways to make a house green, but there is none better than getting motorized blinds. Many custom blinds stores, like Next Day Blinds sell them, and considering what they can do for your heating and cooling bills, it is worth the price. The idea is that you can set these blinds up to a control box that can take temperature readings inside the house. It is programmed to know about where the sun should be at any given time and can close and open blinds in order to keep out the heat, or in order to bring some of it in.
Some houses that have implemented this system have stopped using their heating and cooling systems altogether, while others still run it as a supplement. How your system will need to be run will really depend on where you are at and what type of house you have. Adobe houses for example do not conduct heat very well from room to room. Some people may be concerned that there will be a spike in electricity. While there is for some people a small spike, it is usually reduced by not having to run the AC or heater as much. Usually these blinds don’t go up and down often, but stay in one place for a while until the sun has really changed positions.
Where else have you seen these besides Next Day Blinds ?
What is another good way to go green?
